The College’s urban and suburban studies program will host the free campuswide screening of the documentary “Workers’ Republic” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Smith Hall at Old Main. The film focuses on a modern-day labor victory when Chicago-based Republic Windows and Doors closed before Christmas 2008, leaving its employees without a final week of pay or benefits. Workers responded with a sit-down strike that received news coverage, resulting in a surprising result. Compiled by Andrew Friend, the film won the 2010 John Michaels Human Rights Film Award. More
