At Saturday’s April 17 baseball game against Carthage, Cardinal team members hosted 12 youth from Triple Threat Mentoring in Aurora.
Cardinal student-athletes played field games with the children before the noon game, autographed baseballs and invited the youth to run onto the field for the pregame ceremonies and National Anthem. The youth stayed and watched the Cardinals win the day’s first game, 14-13
North Central students and the Office of Ministry and Service have been volunteering with Triple Threat Mentoring, a nonprofit organization working with under-resourced urban youth in Aurora to empower them to develop confidence, character and life skills. Faculty mentor Tom Cavenagh, Schneller Sisters Professor of Leadership, Ethics and Values, and Jared Bogan, assistant baseball coach and area hall director, coordinated the day’s activities to engage the baseball team members in year-round community service.
