North Central College presents a free screening of the documentary, “Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall.

The film tells the life story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, Ph.D., who was internationally recognized for her persistent struggle for democracy, human rights and environmental conservation. Her simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement and she became an iconic inspiration. The film was made in close collaboration with Maathai during the last decade of her life.

North Central’s Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence from Kenya, Augustine Afullo, Ph.D., will introduce the film.
