Teachers, librarians, farm owners, pastors—much of North Central’s success today rests on a foundation strengthened by the generosity of alumni and friends who loved their alma mater but not the spotlight. One such donor was Ruth Powers ’32, a librarian who was a faithful friend to the College until her death in 2004. Over the years, she donated tens of thousands of dollars to endow a fund at Oesterle Library—the Books for College Libraries Core Collection Endowment Fund—to build the collection. She remained an anonymous donor until her death. Her estate underscored her commitment to North Central, providing $900,000 to renovate the lower level and create the Ruth K. Powers ’32 Library Center for instructional media and the College Archives, an important resource for research by all members of the campus community.
