Cory Schillerstrom was accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Tonga September 5 to begin training as an English education volunteer. During the first three months of her service in Tonga, she will complete technical, language, health and safety training while living with a host family to become fully immersed in the country’s language and culture. After she is assigned to a community, she will work on sustainable, community-driven development projects that help the people of Tonga and Tongan
teachers develop educational resources and encourage healthy living practices in her community. Schillerstrom’s experience studying abroad in France and working on service projects in Naperville, Philadelphia and West Virginia helped her realize that she thrives in foreign service situations. After completing her service, Schillerstrom plans to pursue graduate studies and become an elementary school teacher.
