2009's Lincoln Laureate, Stephanie Ryding ’10, is known for her high achievements both inside and outside the classroom. North Central’s faculty selected Ryding as the College’s 2009 Lincoln Laureate, an annual award that honors outstanding seniors at four-year degree-granting institutions in Illinois. She was honored during an awards ceremony on November 7 in Springfield, IL.
Ryding carries a triple major in management, international business and Spanish with a near-perfect cumulative grade-point average. She is a leader with the College Union Activities Board, is active with the Blue Key Honors Society, has served as a tutor with the College’s Academic Support Center, and was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for freshmen.
A standout starting libero with the volleyball team, Ryding has recorded the fourth-highest single-season number of digs in North Central history and ranks second in school history in career digs (2,633) and third in service aces (161). She leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) in digs per set (6.55), has been named the CCIW’s Defensive Player/Setter of the Week two times, was a Second Team All-CCIW selection in 2007 and a First Team All-CCIW pick in 2008. In 2009, Ryding was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) ESPN the Magazine College Division Academic All-District Second Team. She and her team finished their season with the most wins in College history.
