Ramona M. Wis, North Central College’s Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts and professor and chair of music, was keynote speaker and a session presenter at the British Columbia Music Educators Association conference, titled “Forte 2011: Growing Strong in Music Education,” in Richmond, British Columbia, Oct. 20-22.
Presented Oct. 21, her keynote address was titled “The Power of Our Decisions: As We Do, So Shall They Be.” Many of the concepts she shared were based on research from her book, “The Conductor as Leader: Principles of Leadership Applied to Life on the Podium.” More than 500 music educators and delegates attended the address. She also led a session about choral techniques, titled “Physical Metaphor in the Choral Rehearsal.”
Wis joined North Central’s faculty in 1994. She received a B.S. from the University of Illinois, an M.M. from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
