Vocalist Janice Borla kicks off 2010 Jazz Faculty Concert Series Jan. 13

North Central College will feature jazz vocalist Janice Borla in the third performance of the Jazz Faculty Concert Series on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Joining her will be guitarist John McLean, pianist Frank Caruso, bassist Larry Kohut and drummer Jack Mouse.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave, Naperville. Tickets are $15/adults and $12/students and senior citizens; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit

Borla, a Naperville resident since 1986, has been described as "a one-woman jazz tornado" by Jazz Times and "a stunning singer with a lustrous voice and the technique, imagination and daring of the best improvising instrumentalists" by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Her current CD release "From Every Angle" was named one the Best CDs of the Year by DownBeat Magazine. She is founder of the Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp and Hot Jazz-6 Cool Nites concert series, annual events at North Central College for 22 years.

About the Jazz Faculty Concert Series, Jack Mouse, coordinator of the College's Jazz Studies Program, says, "These informal concerts are an opportunity for audiences, particularly young people, to hear world-class professional jazz artists at an affordable cost without having to travel into the city or cope with the underage restrictions typical of many jazz venues."

Future concerts in the 2010 series will feature trumpeter Doug Scharf on Feb. 3, trombonist T.S. Galloway on Feb. 24 and saxophonist Mitch Paliga on April 14. All concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall.
