11/22 update: Many donated items have been collected for those in central Illinois affected by the tornadoes. Thank you! No new items will be accepted at this time. However, donations of cash, checks or gift cards are still being accepted. Gifts cards to Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Ace Hardware, McDonalds and Meijer are requested. Donations of money and gift cards may be sent via campus to Patricia Schacht (CM 455) or contact her at 630-637-5331 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
11/21: Some North Central College students and their families have been affected by the storms and tornadoes that tore through Illinois on Sunday, Nov. 17. As a result, North Central’s Psi Chi student chapter (the psychology honors society) is sponsoring a donation drive for much-needed items and funds for two towns in particular that were devastated by the storms—Coal City and Washington, IL.
All members of the North Central community are invited to participate by dropping off any of the following items at Goldspohn Hall. Collection boxes are located on the ground floor of Goldspohn Hall outside the psychology department office (room 16) and faculty office for Patricia Schacht (12C), assistant professor of psychology and faculty advisor for Psi Chi.
Collection items include:
nonperishable food items
large garbage bags
manual can openers
female hygiene products
bags of chips for sack lunches
snacks for sack lunches
dog and cat food
brown lunch bags
There are a couple ways to donate money. First, cash or checks payable to North Central’s Psi Chi can be sent to Schacht via campus mail (CM 455) or dropped off at her 12C office in Goldspohn. Supplies will be purchased with the donated funds. Second, checks can be made payable to Diamond and Coal City Tornado Disaster Relief Fund, a tornado relief fund set up by The Village of Diamond at Mazon State Bank, and delivered to Schacht, who will present all donations from the College. For more information contact Schacht at 630-637-5331 or email@example.com.
In addition, the City of Naperville is hosting a collection site through Wednesday, Nov. 27. Collection boxes are located at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St., at the City Clerk’s office on the first floor of the building as well as the City Manager’s office on the second floor. Items will be transported to Washington, IL, on Nov. 29, following the Thanksgiving holiday.
