Steve Albanese, a 2007 alumnus of North Central College, has been named Coach of the Year for the San Diego region by the California Interscholastic Federation, which governs interscholastic athletics in the State of California, reports the Sentinel newspaper in Ramona, Calif.

Albanese is boys’ cross country coach at Ramona High School, a position he’s held since 2009. The team won this year’s CIF San Diego Section Division II cross country championship.

“It’s a great honor, and it’s all because of the athletes,” Albanese told the newspaper. “They’re the ones who put in the work, and they’re the ones who deserve the most recognition.”

Albanese competed at McHenry High School before attending North Central College. As a Cardinal, he was part of team that finished as runner-up to an NCAA Division III cross country National Championship.
