Oct. 8, 2010—Chicago’s Organic Theater Company brings its holiday show “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” to Naperville in December for five performances at North Central College.
“Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” is a funny and moving work that brings the ghost of Jacob Marley out of the shadows and into the spotlight and tells his version of the Dickens classic. Written by award-winning playwright, actor and director Tom Mula, this fanciful tour of Marley's afterlife and his assignment to redeem Scrooge and himself is a delightful, holiday show.
Five performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, 10 and 11 and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 and 12 in Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Tickets are $30/adults and $20/students and senior citizens; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix. For group rates, call the box office.
Mula published his novel “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” in 1995 and it quickly became a Chicago Tribune bestseller. The audio version has been broadcast nationwide on National Public Radio for several seasons and received an INDI Award for Spoken Word from the Association for Independent Music. The theater version received the prestigious Cunningham Prize for Playwriting from the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University. It premiered at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, received four Joseph Jefferson nominations and an After Dark Award.
Organic Theater Company is the second-oldest theater company in Chicago and is known for fostering new talent and shaping the personality of the city’s theater scene. The company’s unique approach to theater utilizes a permanent group of artists over a sustained period and presents them in a rotating repertory or series of productions. Audiences have the opportunity to see the same actor in a variety of roles and the actors get to work as a unit and freely experiment with their craft.
This performance is one of many ongoing programs at North Central College to enrich and broaden the cultural and academic outlook for the College and community. North Central’s variety of venues offer a rich range of local and world-class events, performances and space needs for the public.
