Oct. 12, 2010—Paintings by artist and suburban Chicago native Tom Linden will be on display Nov. 21 through Jan. 6 in North Central College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville, in an exhibit titled “Images of Reality Suggested.”
Linden, of Rockford, studied art extensively through high school and college. At Millikin University in Decatur, Linden concentrated his education on studies of watercolor and oil painting and earned a minor in art in 1981.
Linden particularly enjoys drawing and painting landscapes. Beyond his general love for the outdoors, Linden’s passion for painting landscapes—especially rural landscapes—stems from his desire to communicate the existence of man and capturing sites that people often overlook.
Watercolor and oil paints are mediums Linden uses frequently in his artwork. He has a great appreciation for watermedia due to its ability to accept layers of transparent glazes to achieve a glowing contrast between light and dark passages.
His creative use of colors, patterns and textures come together to capture details that make his paintings come alive. Painting the landscape allows Linden to explore the effects of light and weather while yielding to his love of the outdoors.
Outside of creating his own artwork, Linden devotes much of his time to teaching art. Since 2005, he has taught watercolor at Rock Valley College in Rockford. He has also hosted watercolor workshops at Wisconsin’s Peninsula School of Art since 2009. Visit www.tomlindenart.com to learn more.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Oesterle Library Gallery is open 8 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to midnight Sundays. Contact Nickole C.
