North Central College will showcase works by artist Susan Michod in the exhibit “Disaster Painting Series” Nov. 15 through Jan. 12.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15; complimentary refreshments will be served.

According to artist Josef Albers, “Simultaneous contrast is not just a curious optical phenomenon—it is the very heart of painting.” Similar to Albers, Michod seeks to create a visual representation for an event seen from various points of view.

“Disaster Painting Series” is inspired by her realization that there is more than one perspective to the idea of disaster. She began wondering how disaster could best be visualized and how horror of this magnitude could be represented. “Disaster Paintings” reaches back to her earlier work with even higher stakes. “Now the intersection of natural and nuclear power collide to create new constellations,” says Michod.
