Kristine Book, a 2006 alumna of North Central College, is teaching communication skills to schoolchildren in South Korea.
The Sauk Valley News in Book’s hometown of Dixon, Ill., recently published an article about her experiences. She’s teaching six classes a day, Monday through Friday, she told the newspaper.
The younger kids, first- through third-graders, learn grammar, speaking and drama. The older kids, up through sixth-graders, are moving onto formulating their own conversations and arguments with a debate class.
She said she enjoys teaching the classes but hopes to one day teach junior high school-aged children.
“So many opportunities have been opened to me that I’m considering a lot of different things right now,” she said. “I am so excited. That’s one of the reasons I’m so glad I came here, a lot of perspective. I didn’t know what was out there.”
She majored in organizational communication at North Central College with minors in organizational leadership and English. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education at National Louis University.
