Patricia King, adjunct assistant professor English, won the Kore Press 2011 Short Fiction Award for her short story “The Death of Carrie Bradshaw.” Kore Press, a publishing company geared toward works by women of diversity, will publish her story as a chapbook in fall 2011.
Out of more than 300 submitted manuscripts, King’s story was selected the winner by contest judge, teacher and award-winning author Antonya Nelson. She noted, “‘The Death of Carrie Bradshaw’ is a story full of humor, insight, an act of god, and a great cast of major and minor characters. A rarity in short fiction, it manages to feel uplifting at closure without one unearned moment. A treat.” King’s short story has previously received recognition as a finalist and honorable mention in various contests.
