Maureen Kincaid, North Central College associate professor and chair of education, recently served on a faculty panel during the ACI Center for Success in High Need Schools partnership meeting. She presented alongside Kenneth King of Roosevelt University and Vicki Trinder of the University of Illinois Chicago.
The panel shared ideas on “The Elementary Education Redesign: What Are We Learning and Where Are We Going?” The shared ideas included the addition of content and changes in the rigor of content and pedagogy; the addition of early, ongoing and increased supervised clinical experiences; and the addition of assessments that could be used to measure candidate effectiveness in coursework and field experiences.
Kincaid says, “The redesigned elementary education program at North Central College is aligned with the Danielson Framework for Teaching. It provides a systematic approach to preparing future elementary education teachers to meet the rigorous demands of the edTPA, the new performance-based assessment for student teachers in Illinois.”
Kincaid, a faculty member at North Central since 1998, earned her B.A., M.S.Ed. and Ed.D. from Northern Illinois University.
