Children in elementary, middle and high school can take advantage of exciting summer camps in broadcasting, computers, theatre and various sports at North Central College.
Registration is underway for academic and athletic camps for ages 5 years and older. Camps begin in June and continue through mid-August. Visit www.northcentralcollege.edu/community-and-visitors/summer-camps-workshops to view a complete catalog or call 630-637-5560 for details.
New academic camps this summer include courses in creative writing and digital drawing. Returning courses such as Computer Animation with Flash and Introduction to Game Programming encourage creativity and develop skills.
The College's award-winning student-run radio station WONC-FM 89.1 offers a workshop that allows middle school and high school students to broadcast live on the air, learn how a radio station operates and visit professional stations in Chicago.
Two separate week-long musical theatre workshops for junior high and high school students provide fast-paced, upbeat classes and instruction in acting, singing and dancing taught by seasoned educators and industry professionals.
Children and adults can participate in three community musicals at the College this summer. “A Year with Frog and Toad” for ages 8 and up will be presented July 16-18 and July 23-25. “H.M.S. Pinafore” for ages 17 and up will be performed July 29-31 and Aug. 1. “The Producers” for ages 14 and up will be presented Aug. 6-8 and Aug. 13-15. Vocal auditions for all shows will be held at noon on Sunday, May 2, and dance auditions will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4. Both sets of auditions will be held in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Callbacks will be May 9.
Sports camps include boys basketball, grades 3 to 12; girls basketball, ages 7-14; boys baseball, ages 8 to 14; and girls softball, ages 10-14. Campers will focus on developing and improving fundamental skills through scrimmages and competitions and learn the importance of conditioning and mental preparation. All sports camps—which also include soccer, cross country and track and field—are coached by North Central College varsity coaches and assistants and assisted by varsity athletes.
“North Central’s summer camps feature top-notch facilities, gifted faculty and coaches and award-winning student assistants,” says Renee Miklosik, program director for the summer camps. “We say that North Central is a place where you are central. Whether on the playing field, in the classroom or on stage, we're committed to providing wonderful and memorable experiences for all.”
