The students, faculty and staff of North Central College invite community members to join in for the eighth annual day of service, Intersection, on Saturday, May 3.

The event begins at 7:45 a.m. Volunteers can choose one of two locations to gather and register: in Naperville in the lobby at Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., and in Plainfield at Grace Pointe Church, 14210 South U.S. 30.

At registration, volunteers can choose from 18 different service projects; many are family-friendly and all projects run from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost to participate is $5/person and capped at $20 per family, which includes breakfast and lunch at the site. North Central College student registration is free.

Among the projects available are helping run a youth sports program, cleaning school playgrounds, serving at a food pantry, collecting food donations at local grocery stores, painting, running a fun fair with special needs children and their families, helping women at risk, doing landscaping and cleaning and much more. Site locations are primarily in Naperville and Aurora, but also include West Chicago and Plainfield.

Whitney Roberts, North Central’s assistant director of ministry and service, describes Intersection as a collision—the collision of people and community needs that produces not only short-term results but long-term relationships. “Intersection is one of the best ways the College and community work together to create meaningful impact,” she says. “Over the years, we’ve been grateful for the connections made because of Intersection service projects.”

Volunteers don’t need special skills, just willing hands and a heart to serve. To register an individual, family, friends or a group, visit 2014intersection.eventbrite.com. For more information about Intersection, contact Roberts at 630-637-5106.
