Perry Hamalis—Cecelia Schneller Mueller Professor of Religion, associate professor of religious studies and director of academic opportunities—was one of 10 invited speakers from around the country to present his research on war ethics at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The conference, which took place March 25-26, was hosted by LMU and co-sponsored by the Huffington Ecumenical Institute and Fordham University. Hamalis’s paper, “Constructing a Normative Orthodox Stance on War Through an Analysis of the Roots of Violence,” contributed to the overall conference theme, War and Peace: An Orthodox-Catholic Conversation.

John Langan, S.J., a long-time professor at Georgetown University and expert on the Just War tradition, responded to Hamalis's paper, which is part of a forthcoming book titled “Orthodox Christian Perspectives on War” and co-edited by Hamalis and Valerie Karras of Southern Methodist University.
