A collection of choirs will perform rousing spiritual pieces Jan. 21 when North Central College presents its 24th annual Gospel Extravaganza.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $15/adults, $8/students and senior citizens; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit

The Gospel Extravaganza concludes the College’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Week, which honors the legacy of the civil rights leader who spoke in Pfeiffer Hall in 1960. The week’s events include a presentation Jan. 19 by media entrepreneur Tavis Smiley and a Chicago Sinfonietta tribute to King on Jan. 15.

Performers at this year’s Gospel Extravaganza include North Central College's own Voices of Praise gospel choir, the Elmhurst College Gospel Choir, Wheaton College Gospel Choir, the Voices of Praise Choir from the DuPage African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lisle and the North Park University Step Team.

For the first time ever, as part of the College’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Gospel Extravaganza will feature a performance by alumni of the Voices of Praise choir. North Central alumni from several decades will be traveling from five states to be a part of this special performance.
