Brittany Graham, North Central College sustainability coordinator, was a featured speaker at a statewide composting conference held Feb. 7 at the Westin Hotel in Lombard. She talked about North Central’s composting project at Kaufman Dining Hall as a successful model of waste reduction strategies.
The Illinois Recycling Association and its associated organizations hosted the conference, titled “Looking to the Future: Food Scrap Composting in Illinois.” Nearly 200 attendees learned about the value of composting, the regulatory and operational challenges and successful food scrap collection programs. Other speakers at the conference included representatives from the Illinois EPA, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and other composting champions in Illinois.
At the event, North Central was able to successfully promote its composting program and learn about the future of composting and possible additions to the composting program on campus.
Graham has worked at North Central since 2012. She has a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Iowa.
