July 7, 2011—During Commencement exercises on June 11, North Central College honored Dr. Richard Norenberg, College Life Trustee and 1955 alumnus, with the Gael D. Swing Award for Meritorious Service.
Established in tribute to the College’s eighth president Gael D. Swing, the award is a rare honor and recognizes alumni, trustees and friends whose extraordinary service to the College exemplifies the quality and integrity that were hallmarks of Swing’s tenure as president.
In presenting the award, North Central President Harold R. Wilde said, “(Dick Norenberg) is a skilled thoracic surgeon and medical educator, a generous and loyal alumnus, a trustee for 22 years and former board chair, who always has the best interests of his alma mater at heart.
“His wise counsel, generosity of spirit and leadership of the Board of Trustees were crucial during a period of many challenges 10 years ago, helping to usher in a new decade of growth that positioned North Central for success now and into the future. In his professional achievements, character and humanity, he exemplifies the College’s commitment to excellence in science, and, in the witness of his life, leadership, ethics and values.”
