North Central College's Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Jumping Off the Page, a newly formed not-for-profit for Naperville Reads, will host a series of programs, titled "To Market, To Market: Global Stories of Freedom," on Aug. 28. Open to the public, the family-friendly programs are designed to promote awareness of marketplaces in the world and stories of freedom.

The marketplace will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the College's Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville. Special programs will be presented at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. for all age groups. A donation of $5/person is suggested.

The day's events will be interactive, including music, audience participation, viewing of the film "Lioness of Lisabi" (photo, scene from film) and a panel discussion. In addition, there will be a recreation of a marketplace that's common in many areas of the world with direct-trade products for sale and a book swap.

The award-winning short film "Lioness of Lisabi" is an inspiring story that portrays an African community facing change. The film won first place at the International Children's Film Festival in Chicago and New York and has been endorsed by NCO (Naperville Community Outreach) Youth and Family Services.

Veronica Porter, producer of the day's programming, says, "We wanted to bring the film ‘Lioness Of Lisabi' to the families of Naperville to expand the knowledge and understanding of the marketplace in many areas of the world. Joining with SIFE and Jumping Off the Page, we're able to present how people throughout the world live, how their products come to America and how this affects their lives."
