North Central College alumnus Satyan Devadoss earns mathematics teaching award

Satyan Devadoss '93 has earned a Mathematical Association of America award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.

Satyan Devadoss, Ph.D., who earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics at North Central College in 1993, has earned the Mathematical Association of America’s (MAA) 2014 Northeastern Section Award (NES) for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.

Princeton Review names North Central College among nation’s best colleges for 2015

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

North Central College is included in The Princeton Review’s college guide, “The Best 379 Colleges, 2015 Edition.” The guide surveys more than 130,000 college students nationwide to determine the top 15 percent of about 2,900 four-year institutions nationwide.

North Central College will showcase works by artist Dick Locher in an exhibit titled “Dick Locher: A Hometown Artist” presented by Naper Settlement Aug. 22 through Sept. 28.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Psychology professor seeks to reduce the harmful effects of bullying

Psychology research underway at North Central College is investigating how parents and youngsters can cope with bullying behaviors.

When Patricia Schacht, associate professor of psychology, offered a senior-level seminar at North Central College called “Bullying,” all 20 spots quickly filled. So she opened a second section, which filled just as fast. An expert in child development and parental behaviors, Schacht is finding an insatiable demand for information on the topic of bullying and its prevention, her topic of scholarly research.

The College's main website (northcentralcollege.edu) will undergo maintenance today from 10 to 10:15 p.m. to improve its reliability and performance.

A second maintenance session is planned for 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 to 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. The times for these outages were carefully chosen to attempt to minimize their impact on campus operations.
