Chicago Blackhawks players to be announced later and Tommy Hawk, the Blackhawks’ mascot, are scheduled to be on hand when the College’s Pre-Health Organization (PHO) hosts the event as part of the LifeSource Spring Blood Drive and Marrow Registry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St.

Project by North Central College psychology major Kristen Soforic ’13 is accepted for presentation at regional conference, wins research award.

Kristen Soforic ’13, a psychology major at North Central College, was recently recognized for her academic work. Her research project, titled “The Effect of Induced Hypocrisy on Texting While Driving,” was accepted for presentation at the 2013 Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) conference in May in Chicago. She co-authored the project with North Central 2012 graduate Nicholas Petkunas, also a psychology major.

The discussion will take place at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the second floor Gramarosso Gallery at the Res/Rec Center. All students are invited, especially those interested in education.

Timothy Morris, North Central College professor of philosophy, gave a presentation, titled “The Ethics and Politics of New Reproductive Technologies,” at the monthly meeting of the Humanists of West Suburban Chicagoland held at Naperville’s DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church on Feb. 13. He discussed issues related to in vitro fertilization, surrogate pregnancies, cloning and various attempts at trying to create “the perfect baby.”

Students connect with professionals through HR group

North Central College’s Student Human Resources Group gains charter status with HR organization, opportunities to network and learn from HR professionals.

North Central College students involved in the Student Human Resources Group have been working during the past year to see their organization officially named a chartered student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a leading organization for human resource (HR) professionals.

Their efforts have paid off. On Jan. 17 the student group became an official chapter, opening new opportunities and benefits to students interested in the HR field.
