North Central’s theatre faculty and an alumna and student will be part of the Feb. 11-12 multimedia program “Heroic and Hopeful” presented by the DuPage Symphony Orchestra in Wentz Concert Hall.

The second part of the DSO program features Peter Boyer’s “Ellis Island: The Dream of America,” an original composition with historical imagery and spoken word from the Ellis Island Oral History Project.

Students and parents can learn about some 200 in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities and the armed services at Illinois College Exposition (ICE).

“This event creates an opportunity for students and their families to see some 200 colleges and military programs in one place on one night,” says Kristina Bonn, enrollment information specialist at North Central College. “It gives attendees an opportunity to shop around.”

16 North Central student broadcasters earn nominations in national competition

Sixteen North Central College broadcasters representing WONC-FM 89.1 have earned 12 nominations in an annual national competition.

Feb. 7, 2012—Sixteen North Central College broadcasters representing WONC-FM 89.1, the College’s student-run radio station, have earned 12 nominations in an annual national competition sponsored by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS).

Winners of the Golden Microphone Trophy Awards will be announced March 2-4 at the 72nd Annual IBS International Radio/Webcast Conference in New York City. Last year, North Central students brought home first-place awards for Best Sports Play-by-Play and Best Documentary at the 2011 IBS awards.

The community is invited to express condolences on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Brown Deer High School, 8060 N. 60th St., Brown Deer, Wis. Visitation begins at 5 p.m., with a memorial service starting at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7152 N. 41st St., Milwaukee, Wis.

Feb. 7, 2012—Members of the college community who knew Shaun Wild well, particularly students who were close friends with him, have expressed a desire to attend the visitation and memorial service being held this Thursday, Feb. 9. The College is providing transportation (space is limited) from North Central's campus to Wisconsin for these individuals who must make a reservation by Wednesday, February 8 at 5 p.m.Departure will be at 2 p.m. from the Harold and Eva White Activities Center, and a return to campus is anticipated by midnight.

Students in North Central’s chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) will be selling handmade jewelry and crafts Feb. 7 and 9 as a fundraising effort. Each quality piece of jewelry and craft items is created by women who have been rescued from Thailand’s red light district by The Well and its nonprofit organization Servantworks. The handcrafted items make great Valentine’s Day gifts.

Feb. 5, 2012—North Central College has released a statement on behalf of Bill and Kim Hayes, parents of North Central senior Willie Hayes, who was injured in Saturday morning’s incident, which resulted in the death of recent alumnus and Spring Brook Elementary School teacher Shaun Wild.
