On Jan. 12, the College’s Crisis Task Force used the emergency text message alert system to inform subscribers of the decision to remain open during the snow event. North Central College will host a testing site for the American Mathematics Competitions test 10 and 12 (AMC 10 and AMC 12) on Feb. 22. These contests are the premier high school examinations in mathematics.

May 20 Switchfoot concert will be first in North Central College Res/Rec Center

Alternative rock band Switchfoot performs May 20 at North Central College.

A May 20 performance by the alternative rock band Switchfoot will be the first concert in North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center. The band Bottle of Justus will open.

The Switchfoot performance will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St., Naperville. Tickets are $30; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

North Central College’s fine arts is offering faculty and staff a 50 percent discount on presented events through the remainder of the 2011-2012 season. This special offer ends Friday, Jan. 13.



Winter term contemplative series begins Jan. 12

The department of religious studies invites the campus community to join its contemplative events, including Catholic, Jewish and mindfulness meditations.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join the department of religious studies for its winter series of events that focus on the contemplative dimension of human experience.

The mindfulness meditations take place Thursdays, Jan. 12, 26 and Feb. 9. The Catholic meditation is set for Tuesday, Jan. 31, and the Jewish meditation will meet Thursday, Feb. 23. All events take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center. Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be following by optional contemplative exercises.

Gregory H. Wolf, North Central College professor of German, is chair of the Small Undergraduate German Programs special interest group of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). He organized a breakfast and presented “Keeping German Programs Visible” and co-organized two sessions with six presentations addressing language pedagogy, instructional technology and curricular development at the national meeting of the American Association for Teachers of German in Denver, Colo.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. An artist reception will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1. Guests can meet Lynch and complimentary refreshments will be served.

On April 20, WFMT-FM 98.7 will broadcast a concert by violinist Rachel Barton Pine recorded last year in Wentz Concert Hall.

On April 20, 98.7WFMT—Chicago’s classical and fine arts radio station—will broadcast a concert by renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine recorded last year in North Central College’s acoustically stunning Wentz Concert Hall.

The concert will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Friday, April 20 and may be heard on the radio in the Chicago area at WFMT-FM 98.7 or online anywhere at wfmt.com/streaming.
