Mary Lou Puttkowa Lipscomb '66

Mary Lou Puttkowa Lipscomb is a science curriculum and professional development specialist for IMSA FUSION, an outreach program of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. She writes curriculum and provides professional development to teachers who are part of this after-school math and science program for talented, motivated middle-school students.

Kristine Lipowski '08

Kristine Lipowski is project coordinator at Northwestern University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center, where she has worked for three years with patients and research subjects who have Alzheimer’s or related dementias or disorders. She helps patients and their families become involved in clinical trials for new interventional and therapeutic drugs or devices to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s or dementias. She is enrolled in a master’s program in liberal studies and anticipates graduating in June 2012 and applying for a Ph.D. program in sociology.

Liz Robinson-Chan '93

Liz Robinson-Chan was a finalist in the Our Towns, Our Heroes program sponsored by General Motors. The award recognizes firefighters, paramedics and police officers for exceptional service. An Aurora police officer since 1993, she earned her undergraduate degree in sociology/criminal justice from North Central where she competed as a member of the women’s track and field team and was recognized as an All-American. She also completed her M.B.A.

Lindsay Hill-Batorski '05

Lindsay Hill-Batorski is a postdoctoral research associate in the laboratory of Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is studying Ebola virus pathogenesis and is currently working with a biologically contained virus developed in their lab. She is not able to elaborate because, she says, “We are in the process of submitting several new manuscripts that will hopefully be published in the next few months!” She earned her Ph.D. from UW-Madison in 2010 in the laboratory of the late Dr. Paul Bertics.

Rozanne Ferington Redlinski '75

Rozanne Ferington Redlinski received the New York State Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in August 2011. The award is given to teachers by the State University of New York Chancellor for showing mastery of teaching, dedication to students, adherence to academic standards and continued professional achievements. She teaches various biology courses at Erie Community College in Orchard Park, NY.

Andrew Phillips '09

Andrew Phillips is director of marketing and public relations for the Akron Racers, a professional women’s softball team in Akron, OH. While a student at North Central, he interned for the Chicago Bandits for two years and was hired by the team in 2009. In addition to his duties as director of public relations, social media and ticket sales, Phillips eventually assumed responsibility for the Bandits’ popular internship program.

Stacey Schiel Garrity '95

Stacey Schiel Garrity is a senior manufacturing process development scientist for Epicentre, based in Madison, WI, which manufactures and sells kits for DNA sequencing, transcription and ribosomal RNA removal, among other products. Her role in the manufacturing group is to take incoming new products from the research and design group and “scale them up” to large-scale production, taking processes from a lab bench scale to a production scale.

Kristine Book '06

Kristine Book is teaching elementary schoolchildren in South Korea. Students in grades one through three learn grammar, speaking and drama, while older students are formulating their own conversations and arguments with a debate class. After earning her bachelor’s degree in organizational communication, she pursued a master’s degree in teaching from National-Louis University. In her free time, she has traveled throughout South Korea, to the 38th parallel that separates North and South Korea, and to Jeju, an island known as the Hawaii of Korea.

Phillip Burke '85

Phillip Burke was elected to a fifth term as chairman of the board of Sycamore Hills, MO. He also was reelected as secretary for the Mayors of Small Cities and serves on the nomination committee for the St. Louis County Municipal League. An occasional political science lecturer for a local college, he enjoys traveling in his free time and has visited 50 states, seven continents and more than 50 countries. He continues to play trumpet for the Ambassadors of Swing and the After Hours Community Band.

Darrick Druce '10

Darrick Druce joins the Sauk Valley Predators minor league basketball team as its strength and conditioning coach. Druce completed an internship with the Chicago Bulls/White Sox Academy in 2008 and became the assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2009 for the Bulls where he trained players such as Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Ben Gordon. He implemented off-season and spring training strength programs for the White Sox in 2009.
