Naperville Chorus to perform “Messiah” in Wentz Concert Hall

As the second of five DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO) performances this season, “Bold and Beautiful” continues the celebration of great music, stupendous soloists and superb musicians, all under the masterful direction of Maestra Barbara Schubert. Schubert has been honored this year for her 25 years of services to the DSO.

Oct. 14, 2011—Gifted high school-aged students can earn up to two years of college credit while still in high school through North Central College’s Lederman Scholars Program. Prospective students and their parents are invited to learn more at an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St., Naperville.

A recent segment of “The Red Zone,” a weekly football highlight produced by Naperville Community Television, featured the family aspect of the Cardinals’ football program—its five sets of brothers on the team and its coaching staff that includes a set of brothers, a father-son combo and a father of two recent alumni. The story about family connections starts around the five-minute mark of the 10-minute edition; the first half of the video reviews the Cardinal win against Augustana, 24-3, on Oct. 8.

This fall North Central College announced it was shifting to a Green Cleaning system. This change brought not only new cleaning products that use fewer chemicals, but also new dispensers to accommodate eco-friendly products. All old cleaning products and dispensers around campus were removed and replaced with new greener products and dispensers.

North Central College students joined Associate Professor of Speech Communication Steve Macek for a Verandah course at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Eight North Central College students joined Associate Professor of Speech Communication Steve Macek during the weekend of Oct. 7-9 for a Verandah course at the annual Chicago International Film Festival.

The festival features contemporary films from countries around the world that often don’t receive mainstream attention or distribution. Macek, who is also coordinator of Urban and Suburban Studies and an instructor for the Chicago Term, developed the film festival Verandah, which was offered for the first time this fall term.

Philip Glende, visiting assistant professor of English and advisor to The Chronicle student newspaper, spoke at the annual convention of the American Journalism Historians Association in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 7. He was part of a panel that discussed his 2010 dissertation, which received honorable mention in the 2011 Margaret A. Blanchard Doctoral Dissertation Award competition. The title of his dissertation and talk was “Labor Makes the News: Newspapers, Journalism, and Organized Labor, 1933-1955.”
