NCTV to air live broadcasts of three North Central College football games

Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) will air live broadcasts of three upcoming regular-season North Central College football games.

Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) will air live broadcasts of three upcoming regular-season North Central College football games.

Viewers can catch the Cardinals in action on NCTV17 when North Central hosts Augustana College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8; Wheaton College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5; and North Park University for its Sesquicentennial Homecoming game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

The live broadcasts of the games will be hosted by Alex Symonds and 2011 North Central College graduate Marc Dahlquist. Five cameras will be used in the broadcasts.

Although the Cardinals have a bye week in football, fans can always catch the North Central College Division III football team news on the weekly program “The Red Zone” on NCTV17. Two of “The Red Zone” programs include football highlights, profiles and interviews with key players as well as head coach John Thorne and the coaching staff. The third program features a wrap-up of the other fall sports teams with North Central’s Sports Information Director Clark Teuscher.

Gregory Wolf, North Central College professor of German, publishes essay on all-star pitcher as part of work with Society of American Baseball Research.

Gregory H. Wolf, professor of German, is a member of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) and recently published a 5,000-word essay on Claude Osteen, an all-star pitcher in the 1960s and 1970s in conjunction with SABR’s Baseball Biography Project. The SABR was founded in 1971 at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gerald Gems, professor of health and physical education, gave a presentation titled “Migration, Assimilation, and Sport: Historical Developments and Current Events” at the University of Copenhagen Summer School for graduate students on Aug. 27. In addition, he served as an advisor to several American and international students relative to the development of their doctoral dissertations.

North Central to host talk by national president of university professors’ group

North Central College will host a talk on Sept. 26 by Cary Nelson, president of the American Association of University Professors.

Nelson’s talk, “How to Save Higher Education,” will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 in Smith Hall, located on the second floor of North Central College’s Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St., Naperville.

Nelson is Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois. He took office as the 49th president of the American Association of University Professors in June 2006 and was reelected in 2008.



North Central College acquires first electric car

North Central College has a new addition to its vehicle fleet: The College’s first electric car.

The College bought the all-electric, zero-emissions vehicle over the summer. Campus Safety is using the four-seat vehicle to escort students and conduct patrols around campus.

“By replacing one squad car and using this electric car, Campus Safety will greatly reduce its fuel emissions,” says Abby Hahne, the College’s sustainability coordinator.

Forensics team is off to great start

After a successful finish in national competition last academic year, North Central College’s new forensics team is already off and competing.

“We’re entering a new season with brand new events, and already the forensic team is continuing to demonstrate a strong record of competitive success,” says John Stanley, assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events.
