Seven North Central College student broadcasters have been nominated for 2011 Student Silver Dome Awards in three categories.

Aug. 18, 2011—Seven North Central College student broadcasters have been nominated for 2011 Student Silver Dome Awards in three categories.

The Student Silver Dome Awards are presented each fall by the Illinois Broadcasters Association to the top college and university radio and TV programs in the state.

Yo-Yo Ma performs Oct. 1 in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall

World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform a solo program of Bach music Oct. 1 in Wentz Concert Hall.

World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma graces the stage of North Central College’s acoustically stunning Wentz Concert Hall Oct. 1 for a rare solo performance.

The acclaimed classical music envoy will perform selected works by Bach. Ma earned the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance in 1985 for “Bach: Unaccompanied Cello Suites.” His interpretations of Bach were the subject of a six-part film series, “The Cello Suites Inspired by Bach,” and in 1998 Ma released a second audio recording of Bach works based on the soundtrack of the film series.

1961 Illinois license plates honored North Central College

In 1961, Illinois license plates were red and white in honor of North Central College's centennial.

Before the state of Illinois began issuing multi-year license plates in 1979, motorists would receive a new set of plates each year. The plates were redesigned each year, and the colors for the letters and numbers and backgrounds would change.

Thanks to a blog post, today we're reminded that in 1961, Illinois motorists drove around with red-and-white license plates in honor of North Central College's Centennial.

The Chicago Sinfonietta opens its 2011-2012 season Sept. 24 at North Central College with a concert blending Eastern and Western musical traditions.

The Chicago Sinfonietta opens its 2011-2012 season Sept. 24 at North Central College with “As Fate Would Have It,” a concert blending Eastern and Western musical traditions. The program features Mei-Ann Chen, the organization’s new music director, along with acclaimed guest harpist Ann Hobson Pilot.

Student Amanda Marek places 11th in Naperville Sprint Triathlon

Student Amanda Marek '13 placed 11th among women in Sunday's Naperville Sprint Triathlon.

Student Amanda Marek '13 placed 11th among women in Sunday's Naperville Sprint Triathlon.

The 11th annual event drew more than 1,800 participants for a 400 meter swim, 22K bike race and 5K run. Marek finished the course with a time of 1:12:14.

Marek is pursuing studies in management and entrepreneurship and small business management. She is active with the cross country and track & field teams, Cardinals in Action and Students in Free Enterprise.
