Gary Ernst receives emeritus status after long career

Retiring after 25 years on North Central’s faculty, Gary Ernst is named Professor of International Business and Marketing Emeritus at Commencement.

July 8, 2011—Retiring after 25 years on North Central College’s faculty, Gary Ernst was named Professor of International Business and Marketing Emeritus during the College’s 2011 Commencement exercises on June 11.

In conferring Ernst’s emeritus status, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty R. Devadoss Pandian said, “(Gary Ernst) … has served this institution with honor and distinction for 25 years. In his retirement, the College will miss an outstanding teacher, committed citizen and a wonderful colleague.”

First Citizen of the College Award presented at Commencement

Marti Bogart, associate professor of economics and associate dean for academic affairs, received the Harold and Eva White First Citizen of the College Award.

July 7, 2011—Marti Bogart, associate professor of economics and associate dean for academic affairs, was named the 20th recipient of North Central College’s Harold and Eva White First Citizen of the College Award during Commencement exercises on June 11.

The First Citizen of the College Award recognizes a student, faculty or staff member who exemplifies the best of North Central College and honors a “unique spirit and legacy,” that of Harold and Eva White, longtime editors and publishers of The Naperville Sun and alumni of the College.

Former board chair Dick Norenberg receives Swing Award

At Commencement, North Central honored Dr. Richard Norenberg, College Life Trustee and 1955 alumnus, with the Gael D. Swing Award for Meritorious Service.

July 7, 2011—During Commencement exercises on June 11, North Central College honored Dr. Richard Norenberg, College Life Trustee and 1955 alumnus, with the Gael D. Swing Award for Meritorious Service.

Established in tribute to the College’s eighth president Gael D. Swing, the award is a rare honor and recognizes alumni, trustees and friends whose extraordinary service to the College exemplifies the quality and integrity that were hallmarks of Swing’s tenure as president.

Student participates in President Clinton’s new initiative

Senior Liz Hasseld is chosen a volunteer in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America meeting in Chicago to address job creation and economic growth.

July 6, 2011—When the premier Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America conference came to Chicago June 29-30, Liz Hasseld ’12 was in the thick of things. On her own, she had applied and was chosen to work as a volunteer, which involved supporting CGI staff in coordinating logistics of the speakers and the more than 700 leaders from businesses, nonprofits and government during the two-day meeting.

Walker is a graduating senior majoring in physical education at North Central College. She is a graduate of Bartlett High School.

City of Naperville grants honorary naming of North Central College Avenue

City and College officials gathered for the sign unveiling during the College’s the official kickoff of the yearlong Sesquicentennial Celebration.

The City of Naperville is helping North Central College celebrate its Sesquicentennial with new signage throughout the city, including markers that honor the commemorative renaming of a stretch of Chicago Avenue as North Central College Avenue.

The Naperville City Council approved the commemorative and permanent renaming of Chicago Avenue between Ellsworth and Julian streets as North Central College Avenue. The east-west thoroughfare runs through the College’s campus and the residential area in the Naperville Historic District just east of downtown.
