The American Scientific Affiliation (ASA) is a fellowship of men and women of science and related disciplines who share a common fidelity to the word of God and a commitment to integrity in the practice of science. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Science-Faith Synergy: Glorifying God and Serving Humanity.”

July 21, 2011—For the first time, North Central alumnae served as co-directors of the Junior/Senior Scholars summer camp, a college readiness program that partners with high-need elementary and secondary schools in Aurora and Chicago. Program Coordinator Jan Fitzsimmons recruited Cherrelle Blevins ’09 and Jill Bushman ’10 to serve as co-directors, along with four North Central alumni as coaches and 17 students as interns for the 2011 five-week summer program.

Sport management major Derek Sanderson is spending his summer working as an intern with the Chicago Blackhawks' marketing department.

Sanderson, of St. Louis, Mo., is entering his junior year. He was profiled Friday in the Blackhawks Daily, the team's front office newsletter. In the profile he answered questions about why he chose to attend North Central, what books he likes to read and where he'd like to retire.

Four directions meet at North Central College art exhibit through Sept. 18

“4 Directions/4 Printmakers,” an exhibit of works by four different artists, will be shown from Aug. 12-Sept. 18 at North Central College.

North Central College will host the exhibit “4 Directions/4 Printmakers,” Aug. 12 through Sept. 18, featuring works by four artists from different regions of the country.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. The artists will greet visitors during an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

North Central student Jacqueline Roller hosted her first solo art show July 16 at the Naperville Art League. The Naperville resident plans to complete her studies in 2012 with a double-major in studio art and psychology.

The River Cities Reader recently profiled Associate Professor of English Zachary Jack in a piece that talked about how he is a descendant of seven generations of  families in Iowa.

Jack will deliver an author’s talk and read from his creative-nonfiction book “Native Soulmate” (scheduled for September release) at the Bettendorf Public Library on Thursday, July 21.

Cardinals fans who treat themselves to ice cream at a St. Charles shop on Tuesday, July 26, can support the Red Noise Marching Band.

Kimmer’s Ice Cream, 1 W. Illinois St., St. Charles, will donate a percentage of the day’s proceeds and all tips to support the band’s camp, travel and development. Student musicians will perform at the shop during the evening.



Naperville Art League, Riverwalk Fine Art Fair winners exhibit at North Central College

North Central College hosts an exhibit of works by members of the Naperville Art League and winners of Riverwalk Fine Art Fair awards.

“Current Visions,” an exhibit of works by members of the Naperville Art League and winners of the annual Riverwalk Fine Art Fair awards, will be shown through July 31 at North Central College.

The exhibit opened June 24 and is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
