David Gray selected to write for C.P.A. exam

David Gray, assistant professor of accounting, was chosen to write test items for the Business and Economics Concepts section of the Uniform C.P.A. Examination.

David Gray, assistant professor of accounting, was selected to write test items for the Uniform C.P.A. Examination. In this role, he participated in training sessions and developed a series of questions for the Business and Economics Concepts section of the examination. Gray was recently notified that 95 percent of the questions he submitted have been accepted for use on future examinations. The overall acceptance rate for authors submitting test items is approximately 65 percent.

Blanchet joins Chicago Sinfonietta in special concert

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, played with the Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Center in a farewell concert for Maestro Freeman.

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, played with the Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Center in Chicago in the “Maestro Freeman’s Farewell Concert: Women in Classical Music” performance on June 23. This event, which was broadcast live on the classical music station WFMT-FM 98.7, was the final concert for the Chicago Sinfonietta’s founding conductor Paul Freeman. Blanchet teaches percussion and directs the Percussion Ensemble at North Central.

Winning two national titles along with a runner-up finish, the Cardinal men's program secured the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Al Carius Program of the Year Award for the second straight season on June 1.



Josh Bailey is the 2011 Outstanding Senior Man

Future law student Josh Bailey is named the College’s Outstanding Senior Man, the highest award presented to a male member of the Class of 2011.

June 3, 2011—Joshua Bailey, a North Central College senior majoring in English writing and political science, was named the College’s Outstanding Senior Man, the highest award presented to a member of the Class of 2011.

A Galesburg, Ill., resident, he is the son of Brian and Patty Bailey and a graduate of Galesburg High School.

The Outstanding Senior Man award was presented in May at North Central College’s Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that recognizes student excellence in academics and co-curricular activities.

Angie Snodgrass chosen Outstanding Senior Woman

Theatre major Angie Snodgrass is named the College’s Outstanding Senior Woman, the highest award presented to a female member of the Class of 2011.

June 3, 2011—Angie Snodgrass, a North Central College senior majoring in theatre, was named the College’s Outstanding Senior Woman, the highest award presented to a member of the Class of 2011.

A Naperville resident and formerly of Byron, Ill., she is the daughter of Jeffery and Cathy Huber of Naperville and a graduate of Byron High School.

Education class uses Skype to connect with noted speaker

Students in the Teaching Children with Special Needs in the General Education Classroom hear lecture, ask questions of guest speaker Brian King via Skype.

Some 24 students enrolled in North Central College’s EDN 330 course Teaching Children with Special Needs in the General Education Classroom, taught by Adjunct Instructor of Education Julie Carballo, heard from and exchanged questions with guest lecturer Brian King via the Internet using Skype on May 20.

Carballo says she met King in March when he gave a presentation on sensory processing disorders and was eager to have him speak to her students. King discussed “Five Things Every Teacher Should Know About Effectively Supporting Children on the Spectrum.”

Lauren Wallem was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Religious Studies Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Wallem is a graduating senior double-majoring in religious studies and political science. She has been accepted to the master of divinity program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.

Mike O’Connor was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Sociology and Anthropology Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

O’Connor is a graduating senior double-majoring in psychology and sociology with a focus on criminal justice. After graduation he plans to begin training as a police officer. He is a graduate of Bolingbrook High School.

Etienne Mashuli was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Political Science Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Mashuli plans to graduate from North Central in 2013 with a double-major in political science and economics. He is an international student from Rwanda who began his studies at North Central in January 2009.
