Brian Riordan was honored with the 2011 Clarence Juhnke Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College. The award recognizes an outstanding student majoring in music. Riordan is a percussionist.

Erica McCauley earns Outstanding Major in French Award

Erica McCauley was awarded the 2011 Outstanding Major in French Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

McCauley is a graduating senior who is double-majoring in French and global studies at North Central College. She is a graduate of Minooka Community High School.

Michael Schwartz earns Outstanding Major in Music Education Award

Michael Schwartz was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Music Education Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Schwartz earned the award as a junior during the 2010-2011 academic year. He is majoring in music education with a focus on instrumental music. Schwartz plays saxophone and performs with the North Central College saxophone quartet.

Bianca Gavin earns Outstanding Major in German Award

Bianca Gavin was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in German Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Gavin is a graduating senior majoring in German. She has been awarded the the Max Kade Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in German at the University of Illinois.

At North Central, Gavin tutored students in German, co-presented research at the annual state meeting of the American Association of Teachers of German, Illinois chapter presented research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research.

Kara Hoover earns Outstanding Major in Japanese Award

Kara Hoover was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Japanese Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Hoover is double-majoring in Japanese and Spanish at North Central College, where she participated in the College Scholars Honors Program. In fall 2011, she plans to study abroad at Kyoto Gakuen University in Kameoka, Japan. At North Central, she was among a group of students who studied abroad in China and Japan in fall 2009.

Abbey Smith earns Outstanding Major in Journalism Award

Abbey Smith was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Journalism Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Smith is a graduating senior majoring in print journalism and international relations and has been accepted to work with AmeriCorps in Wisconsin after graduation and will be tutoring low-achieving students. She is a graduate of Dodgeville High School.

Naomi Smith was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Classical Civilization Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Marcy Thomas was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Studio Art Award and Katherine Hannan was named recipient of the Diane Duvigneaud Senior Art Award.

Thomas is a graduating senior double-majoring in studio art and art history. Hannan is a graduating senior double-majoring in studio art and corporate accounting.

Grant Swanson earns Outstanding Major in English Award

Grant Swanson was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in English Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Swanson is a graduating senior majoring in English writing at North Central College. He has accepted a position with Teach for America and will be teaching children in a high-need elementary school on a Native American reservation in South Dakota. He is a graduate of Millard West High School in Omaha, Neb.

Follett Corporation camera crews on campus May 31

A camera crew for Follett Higher Education Group, which operates the College bookstore, will be on campus Tuesday, May 31, filming people and scenes around campus for a promotional video. Follett's corporate office chose North Central College as the featured school for this project.
