Watercolor paintings and ceramic artwork by contemporary visual artist Ana Žanić are featured in “Small Worlds” exhibit Jan. 8 through Feb. 16 at North Central College.
The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. An artist reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, where guests can meet Žanić. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
Žanić holds master of arts and master of fine arts degrees in art education and painting from the University of Zagreb in Croatia and her work has been displayed at galleries in Europe and the United States. Her award-winning work has been featured in the American Art Collector publication. Žanić’s subjective paintings explore the introversion of personal feeling and the extroversion of creating art.
“My works are abstract compositions in which the colors and forms create atmospheric spaces of transcendence,” Žanić says. “They evolve from a notion, develop through intuition and are evocative rather than descriptive. They are not a depiction of the world but a structure of forms, lines and colors with associative elements. My paintings are greatly involved with subjectivity and emotions and remain ‘open’ and transformable even when they are finished.”
