May 17, 2012—Aiste Kairys of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Interactive Media Studies Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Kairys is a senior majoring in the interactive media studies graphic arts track with a minor in marketing. She is simultaneously taking graduate courses toward a master of arts in liberal studies (MALS) degree.
She transferred to North Central in 2009 from the College of DuPage, where she earned an associate’s degree in applied science. She says chose North Central because of its location and for its integrated bachelor’s/master’s degree program.

At North Central she’s been a dean’s list scholar and earned a Judy G. Stevenson Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a nontraditional female student. Born and raised in Lithuania, Kairys says she likes to challenge herself.

“The professors here are inspiring,” Kairys says. “They are willing to guide and help each student to achieve his or her best.”

Kairys served on a research committee that evaluated prospective faculty for interactive media studies and contributed to the Viewfinder, an interactive media online magazine. She coordinates the interactive media studies department’s website and social media efforts.

She says she’s grateful for the experiences she’s having at North Central, and hopes to pursue graduate studies after she completes her bachelor’s degree in June.
