ABC7 Chicago reports on how the North Central College football team is rallying behind head coach John Thorne, whose wife Kathie is battling cancer.
As the Cardinals advance in the NCAA Division III football playoffs, players are showing their support for the Thornes by playing with shaved heads in a show of solidarity with their coach. Kathie Thorne, who has attended games this season in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a treatable but incurable form of blood cancer.
"We're a big family here at North Central College on this football team," defensive end Willie Hayes told ABC7 Chicago. "We just wanted to do something to show our support for the team and for Kathie and coach Thorne's family and all that, so we decided as a group to shave our heads."
