Nov. 23, 2010—Captivating Celtic music, thought-provoking poetry and spectacular stellar images collide when “Ensemble Galilei and Neal Conan: A Universe of Dreams” is presented Feb. 5 at North Central College.

This multimedia Celtic performance combines the talent of Ensemble Galilei and Conan—host of National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation” program—with the newest images from the Hubble Space Telescope projected on stage as a perfect backdrop. The show is a transporting musical, visual and celestial experience.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Tickets are $40 and $30; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit

“A Universe of Dreams” includes poems by Mary Oliver, Jane Kenyon, May Sarton and Lucille Clifton. These poems are combined with narrative about the universe to create a program that Conan and Ensemble Galilei debuted in 2004. They also have collaborated on “First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World,” which premiered at the National Geographic Society in 2007.

As host of “Talk of the Nation,” Conan is heard each weekday on about 300 NPR stations nationwide and on NPR worldwide. Conan served NPR News as a reporter, editor and producer and as bureau chief in New York and London.

Ensemble Galilei creates what one reviewer describes as “music that speaks to the heart in ways that transcend mere language.” The Washington Post declares, “Virtuoso technique, an instinctive feeling for the idiom, the courage to improvise … they play with energy, splendid ensemble, good humor and imagination.”

The performance is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. North Central College’s 2010-2011 Sesquicentennial Fine & Performing Arts Season is supported by a generous grant from the Illinois Arts Council. USG Corporation and Navistar, Inc. are underwriting sponsors.

This performance is one of many ongoing programs at North Central College to enrich and broaden the cultural and academic outlook for the College and community. North Central offers a variety of venues accommodating a rich range of local and world-class events, performances and space needs for the public.
