Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1978
A North Central College Life-Trustee since 1981, Daniel Ruge established himself as an outstanding neurosurgeon in the Midwest. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Harvey Cushing Society and is certified by the American Board of Neurosurgery. He was a professor of surgery at Northwestern University and was deputy director for Spinal Cord Injury Service at the Veterans Administration Central Office in Washington, D.C. Prior to assuming his position in Washington in 1976, Ruge maintained a private practice in Chicago and was senior attending surgeon at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and attending neurosurgeon at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Ruge has demonstrated a special interest in North Central College for many years. Since 1961, he has served on the Board of Trustees and was director of the Alumni Association. He has had several medical papers published and is the author of “Spinal Cord Injuries” and “Spinal Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment.” Ruge was also the White House physician during the Reagan Administration.
