North Central College’s new chemical microscopy degree is featured in a two-page spread in the Oct. 17 issue of Chemical & Engineering News, a journal of the American Chemical Society.

The article describes how North Central College is offering the nation’s first four-year degree in chemical microscopy through a partnership with Hooke College of Applied Sciences in Westmont.

North Central College biology alumna featured for work with Indiana DNR

Biology alumna Jenny Orsburn works as a program specialist for the Lake Michigan Coastal Program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Jenny (Kintzele) Orsburn, who earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from North Central College in 2001, works as a program specialist for the Lake Michigan Coastal Program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Orsburn’s work recently was featured in the (Michigan City, Ind.) News-Dispatch.

North Central College biology alumna making career in avian research

Dana Ripper, a 1998 biology alumna of North Central College, is making a career of avian research, conservation and education.

The Naperville Sun recently featured Ripper and her work with the Missouri River Bird Observatory, an organization she co-founded.

North Central anthropology student, Field Museum intern earns scholarship

North Central College anthropology student Amanda Marolf has been awarded the 2011 Gloria Levitt Scholarship for Anthropology.

Aug. 23, 2011—North Central College anthropology student Amanda Marolf of Naperville, who interns at The Field Museum in Chicago, has been awarded the College’s 2011 Gloria Levitt Scholarship for Anthropology.

Marolf, a junior, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship for her work in The Field Museum’s Anthropology Collections during the summer. She’ll continue her internship in the fall.

The Legacy of Dr. Albert Goldspohn

As the flourishing young campus of North-Western College needed more space, President H. J. Kiekhoefer (1889-1910) pushed for the building of a new science hall. In his 1899-1900 report to the Board of Trustees, Kiekhoefer recognized the need for a “special building for the study of science.”

His appeals were first answered by the area church conferences, but by May 1903, only $1,438 had been raised. The science hall finally became a reality when Dr. Albert Goldspohn,

New American Colleges and Universities Fellow Adds to Science Lore

J. Burton Kirkwood, professor of history at the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN, used his sabbatical as a New American Colleges and Universities fellow at North Central during fall term 2010. While observing the College’s senior administrative leadership, he also researched North Central’s rich legacy in the sciences and its many distinguished alumni.
