NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Dec. 15, 2010)—Music professor Paul Warren Allen could be moved to tears by the beautiful sounds created by students in his choir at North Central College.

“I remember one Christmas he was conducting the choir singing Handel’s ‘Messiah.’ The truth of the words gripped him and he had crocodile tears running down his cheeks,” recalls his daughter, Paula Billingsley.

Students accepted into this program earn both a bachelor’s degree—in any discipline—and the master of leadership studies with the completion of 141 credit hours.

Men’s cross country, football head to nationals

Winning contests on Nov. 13 meant the men’s cross country and football teams head to NCAA Division III National Championships in their sports on Nov. 20.

Winning contests on Nov. 13 meant the men’s cross country and football teams head to NCAA Division III National Championships in their sports on Nov. 20. In cross country, all seven runners finished in the top 25 at regionals, securing the team’s third straight NCAA Division III Midwest Regional title at the Saukie Golf Course and participation in the National Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The squad aims to claim its second straight national title and 14th overall.

North Central College welcomes Howard Mueller to Board of Trustees

Howard Mueller of Oswego, Ill., has joined the North Central College Board of Trustees.

Nov. 15, 2010—Howard Mueller of Oswego, Ill., has joined the North Central College Board of Trustees.

Mueller is serving a two-year term as trustee in his role as president of the North Central College Alumni Association Board of Directors. Mueller succeeds Lloyd Krumlauf, head men’s golf coach at North Central and a 1973 alumnus.

Forensics team is on a roll!

North Central’s forensics team takes first place at recent tournament, with students placing in the finals and semi-finals in contests during fall term.

During the last weekend in October, the forensics team traveled to Lee’s Summit, Mo., near Kansas City, to compete at the Central States Swing Forensics Tournament, which included two different tournaments on Oct. 30-31. North Central’s team took first place both days and six students placed in the finals—“an incredible feat,” says John Stanley, assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events.
