Senior musical "Pippin" bursts with show-stopping songs and dance

North Central College students will present "Pippin," a hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale.

North Central College students will present "Pippin," a hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale and winner of 11 Tony Awards by Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Four performances will be staged at 7:30 p.m. March 4, 5 and 6, and at 2 p.m. March 7 in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. The story of "Pippin" takes place once upon a time, when a young prince Pippin longs to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment.

One Night of Queen will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. Tickets are $40, $30 and $25; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469). One Night of Queen recreates and celebrates the music of the British rock band Queen. The show is performed by Gary Mullen and his band The Works with fantastic staging, lighting and effects.

A group show featuring works by three winners of the Naperville Art League’s annual Riverwalk Fine Art Fair will be featured March 5 through April 9 at North Central College’s Schoenherr Art Gallery. “Vibrant Moods: Visions from Riverwalk Fine Art Fair Award-Winning Artists” features paintings by Pamela Hart of Naperville, Bob Koch of Naperville and Michael McKee of Wheaton. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Schoenherr Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center is located at 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. The exhibit will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m.

Jan. 28, 2010—Chicago Jazz Orchestra will perform “Exquisitely for Ella: A Songbook Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald” Feb. 26 in North Central College’s acoustically perfect Wentz Concert Hall.

The tribute concert features vocalists Dee Alexander, Spider Saloff, Frieda Lee and the 40-piece Chicago Jazz Orchestra conducted by Jeff Lindberg performing the best of Fitzgerald’s “Songbook” recordings, including those of Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen.
