Members of the Naperville Art League will display their original creations at North Central in the show “Spontaneous," which is free and open to the public.

Members of the Naperville Art League will display their original creations in a month-long exhibit at North Central College.

“Spontaneous” is free and open to the public from July 23 through Aug. 22 in Schoenherr Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Artists will greet visitors during an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 23.

Previewed in the Naperville Sun, jazz vocalists and recording artists Janice Borla, Jay Clayton and Madeline Eastman combine their talents with North Central’s jazz instrumentalists for the popular concert series Hot Jazz-6 Cool Nites, July 17 and 19-23, in Wentz Concert Hall. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/students and senior citizens for the first five performances. The July 23 tickets are $10 and $5.

Singer/songwriter LeAnn Rimes will perform her classic country hits and songs from her latest release Sept. 18 at North Central College.

Rimes heads to Naperville before the Oct. 5 release of her new album, “Lady and Gentlemen.” Her first studio album in three years will feature covers of classic country tunes. Rimes’ performance will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, in North Central’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. The first of three summer musicals, “A Year With Frog and Toad,” comes to Pfeiffer Hall July 16-18 and 23-25. Nominated for three Tony Awards in 2003—for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of Musical—the play is a whimsical story that follows an unlikely friendship between a cheerful and popular Frog and a rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons of one year. Susan Craig-Olsen, North Central’s lecturer of theatre, will direct 110 actors from the community.

Trustee, benefactor Judy Stevenson was "one of a kind"

North Central Trustee was a caring mother, sucessful entrepreneur and business leader, a friend of the arts and a generous benefactor of North Central.

North Central College Life Trustee Judy Stevenson will be remembered for being a caring mother, a successful entrepreneur and business leader, a friend of the arts and a generous benefactor of North Central College and many other causes.

Stevenson died Monday, June 28, 2010, after a long battle with emphysema and related illnesses. She was a fifth-generation Napervillian.

North Central hosts Cavalcade of Brass July 11

North Central welcomes the Cavalcade of Brass, featuring eight drum & bugle corps, including The Cavaliers from Rosemont, Ill., at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 11.

North Central College welcomes the Cavalcade of Brass, featuring eight drum & bugle corps, including The Cavaliers from Rosemont, Ill., at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 11. The performance will be held in North Central's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St., Naperville.

Performing are the Colt Cadets, Racine Scouts, Pioneer, Spirit, Madison Scouts, Blue Stars, Carolina Crown and The Cavaliers, with an exhibition by the Classic Cavaliers. Tickets range from $35 to free admission for children 13 and under with an adult; call 630-968-0419.

The public is invited to enjoy a free performance featuring two of the world’s greatest Highland bagpipers and a U.S. champion snare drummer at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, in North Central College’s Koten Chapel at Kiekhofer Hall, 329 E. School St., Naperville.

The 90-minute performance features 11-time world-champion piper Alasdair Gillies—voted by the readers of Piper & Drummer magazine as the 20th century’s greatest piper—multi-world champion piper Brian Donaldson, and U.S. and Midwest champion snare drummer Andrew Hoinacki.
