North Central College will host the exhibit, “The Other Side of the Earth,” by artist Chun Arthur Wang Sept. 5 through Oct. 14.

North Central College will host the exhibit, “The Other Side of the Earth,” by artist Chun Arthur Wang Sept. 5 through Oct. 14 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St.

Wang is associate professor of fine arts at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, where he teaches drawing and watercolor. He has exhibited work in China, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the the United States. His works are held in private and public collections, including the China National Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing, University of Colorado and the Ohio Statehouse.

North Central’s second Summer Music Theatre production, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore,” opens Thursday, July 29, for four weekend performances. Director Matt Boresi ’97, lecturer of theatre, brings a new twist to this classic hit, incorporating original dialog that had been dropped. The story of “H.M.S.” takes place aboard a British naval vessel in the 1840s and is a love story between members of different social classes.

Some 30 local artists who belong to the Naperville Art League are displaying their original creations in an exhibit titled “Spontaneous” through Aug. 22 in Schoenherr Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center. The exhibit showcases selected two- and three-dimensional art pieces in a variety of media. The artists are professional and emerging artists as well as hobbyists, and some are formally trained while others are self-taught.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Freeman is a professor of digital media at the University of North Carolina–Charlotte, where she teaches digital print, animation, video, installation and drawing.

Previewed in the Naperville Sun, jazz vocalists and recording artists Janice Borla, Jay Clayton and Madeline Eastman combine their talents with North Central’s jazz instrumentalists for the popular concert series Hot Jazz-6 Cool Nites, July 17 and 19-23, in Wentz Concert Hall. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/students and senior citizens for the first five performances. The July 23 tickets are $10 and $5.
