Film and panel highlight Education Under Fire in Iran

At the request of North Central senior psychology major Mozhdeh Khodarahmi, the Office of International Programs is presenting the film “Education Under Fire” and panel discussion from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Smith Hall at Old Main.

Local educator, literacy expert to speak Jan. 25 at North Central College

Local elementary school teacher and Illinois’ Reading Educator of the Year Maria Walther will speak at North Central College Jan. 25.

Local elementary school teacher, education expert and literacy consultant Maria Walther will speak at North Central College on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Her talk will take place at 5:30 p.m. in room 20 at the College’s Goldspohn Hall, 31 N. Loomis St., Naperville. The event is free and open to the public.

“Maria Walther is an extremely reliable and interesting speaker and often provides a variety of resources,” says Alyssa Mahoney, a North Central junior majoring in elementary education. “We cannot get enough of what she has to say!”

Popular R&B group Ahmir performs benefit concert Jan. 27 at The Union

Ahmir—billed as “YouTube’s No. 1 most popular R&B group”—will perform at North Central College to benefit students’ spring break service trip.

Expert on global hunger to give informal talk Jan. 20

North Central College will host a talk by Paul Macek on global hunger as part of the Office of International Program’s global human rights focus this year.

North Central College will host an informal talk and discussion on global hunger Jan. 20 with Paul Macek, senior director of food security and livelihoods at World Vision.

According to World Vision, some 925 million people in the world—or one in seven people—don’t eat enough to be healthy. Hunger is number one on the list of the world’s top 10 health risks in 2012. It kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
