North Central College presents the three-dimensional light artwork of Chicago-based artist Monika Wulfers, a 1968 graduate of North Central, in her exhibit “Monika Wulfers LINES,” Feb. 5 through March 27.

The free exhibit will be displayed in North Central’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Wulfers will greet visitors at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Nearly 500 people of varied ages, races and hometowns listened as Patrisse Cullors, cofounder of Black Lives Matter, shared her view of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the need for continued social activism and community organizing.

“This is our holiday,” she said of the observance of King’s birthday on campus and across the country. “Community activists don’t have many holidays.”

Rachel Louise Snyder ’92, Joseph Mallon ’80, J.D., C.P.A., and Nathan Montgomery ’00, M.D., Ph.D., are honored for excelling in their careers and their service.

This year’s three outstanding North Central College alumni may have seemed unlikely award winners when they first came to campus as freshmen. One was a high school dropout and two came to run and be part of championship cross country and track and field teams.

Not so many years later, each one has achieved great success in their professional careers. Each is a testament to the lifelong value of a liberal arts education.

Robert Wegley earns Outstanding Major in Secondary Education Award

Robert Wegley ’15 received the Outstanding Major in Secondary Education Award during North Central College’s 2015 Honors Convocation.

Robert Wegley, son of Brian and Kathy Wegley of Glenview, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Secondary Education Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

Robert graduated from North Central in June and majored in English literature and secondary education at North Central College. He is a graduate of Glenbrook South High School.

Talking with North Central College’s new vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, Dr. Abiodun “G-P” Goke-Pariola, there are a few words you won’t hear—like “status quo.” He pursued the position as leader of academic affairs knowing that his challenge will be to elevate the reputation of the faculty and academic programs, which in quality far exceeds similar and better-known institutions. It’s a goal that excites him.

North Central hosts Intersection day of service Oct. 3

Members of the campus and local community are invited to join North Central College students in serving various people and neighborhood organizations Oct. 3.

North Central College students will help families in need, spend time with children and the elderly and perform other acts of service on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Intersection, the College’s annual day of service in the community, is among many reasons North Central has earned recognition from the White House on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
