Registration is open for 2014 summer camps and workshops

North Central College’s summer camps and workshops feature 95 opportunities for children and adults, ranging from athletics to fine arts to academics and more.

If you’ve been thinking about ways to enjoy summer this year, North Central College has opened registration for its summer camps and workshops for children and adults. Among the 95 opportunities are nine new camps, ranging from athletics to fine arts to academics and more.

Camps begin in early June and many run through July and early August. Some last several days and include meals and overnight accommodations, while some workshops may last a few hours. Fees vary, of course, depending on the length and type of camp or workshop.

“Helping people is my goal,” says Steve Hlavac ’12, founder and owner of Beyond Measure Training in Naperville. His business was founded on that principle and his life reflects it.

Steve Hlavac ’12 has always loved fitness and training. An exercise science graduate, he’s the all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards in Cardinal football and was an outfielder in baseball. That passion led to helping college friends with personal training and evolved into a career and the launch of Beyond Measure Training.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.

A new look, a new atmosphere in Gregory Arena

For the 2013-2014 Cardinal athletics season, Gregory Arena in Merner Field House has new retractable bleachers, providing 600 additional seats.

Spectators at North Central College home basketball, volleyball and wrestling contests will be treated to a greatly improved atmosphere inside Gregory Arena at Merner Field House. A series of upgrades are in the works with the goal of creating an improved experience for teams and fans alike.

With the arena’s running track receiving far less use after the opening of the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, the College took advantage of the opportunity to install retractable spectator seating on the first floor of Gregory Arena.

Daniel Kerley earns Senior Scholar-Athlete Award at Honors Convocation

Senior psychology major Daniel Kerley earns Scholar-Athlete Award for fourth year for highest GPA during North Central’s 2013 Honors Convocation.

Daniel Kerley, son of William and Teri Kerley of Vienna, Ill., was awarded the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College. The award recognizes the student-athlete in each class with the highest grade-point average. Daniel has received the Scholar-Athlete Award all four years at North Central.

A senior, Daniel is majoring in psychology at North Central College and is a graduate of Vienna High School.
