Men's cross country wins Division III National Championship, crushes competition

With all seven competing runners earning All-America status, the Cardinals decimated the field, finishing with just 50 points, the fourth-lowest winning total in the meet's history. Runner-up Williams College finished with 181 points, giving North Central the largest margin of victory ever at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country National Championships.

The men’s cross country team looks to win its 13th national title on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Highland Hills Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio. The NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship race is scheduled to begin at noon Eastern time. Go Cards!! In men’s cross country, all seven varsity runners finished among the top 10 as the team dominated the 35-team field at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational Oct. 17. The victory was the Cardinals' sixth invitational win, as the top varsity squad has yet to be defeated this season. More The football team continued its prolific scoring output on Oct. 17 in a 63-48 victory over Carthage College.

In addition to Jim Rank ’58 and Bob Dunphey ’85, the final three inductees to North Central’s 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame are Craig Stefan ’87 for baseball, Dan Baker ’89 for track and field and Susan DeNigris ’02 Kane for track and field. The induction ceremony will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Wentz Concert Hall. Craig Stefan ’87 stood out as one of the top performers in baseball during what could easily be called the most successful era ever for the program, 1984 to 1987.

Brad Spencer, assistant football coach; coordinator of academic program and coordinator of game/practice management, was selected as one of eight NCAA Division III coaches to take part in Global Football's 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Dec. 19 in Monterrey, Mexico. He will assist with the coaching of Team Stars & Stripes, which will include 50 of the top NCAA Division III players in the nation. More
