Nearly 1,000 students, alumni, trustees, faculty and staff gathered with local and regional elected officials, business leaders and other dignitaries May 15 at a kickoff celebration in the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center.

North Central recognizes high-achieving students for academic and co-curricular excellence at the College’s 39th annual Honors Convocation.

On May 12, North Central College held its 39th annual Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that publicly celebrates student excellence in the academic and co-curricular life of the College. Some 55 students were introduced by faculty members, who recognized them for their academic achievements. In addition, a record 41 College Scholars, eight Richter Grant recipients and some 30 Scholar All-Americans were recognized for their successes.

It’s a special day when a child commits to attend his or her college of choice. And it was especially memorable for Melissa Crotty in 2014 when she learned that her son Liam wanted to spend four years at North Central College.

“The day I committed to play football [at North Central], my mom made a post about how they didn’t think I would finish high school let alone go to college. You know moms on Facebook, they post those things,” joked Liam, a resident of Sandwich, IL.

Clark Teuscher, North Central College sports information director, was a presenter and panelist at the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar (ELS) held Jan. 29 at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis. Recently, he also was named the co-chair of the College Sports Information Directors of America’s (CoSIDA) Continuing Education Committee.

For athletic training majors at North Central College, learning extends well beyond textbooks and classrooms. Students learn directly from practicing physicians.

In addition to clinical rotations, internships and ongoing treatment of hundreds of student-athletes involved in competitive sports, athletic training students have the opportunity to meet with orthopaedic surgeons/physicians who come to campus to share their expertise.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

The most recent upgrades to lighting in the College’s geothermal-controlled, LEED-certified Residence Hall/Recreation Center and in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center are estimated to save the College an additional $35,000 annually in electricity costs. The projects are supported by a $67,989 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation's Energy Efficiency Lighting Upgrade Program.
